As part of my college course I had to complete 60 hours work experience, I am studying Travel and tourism at college and am hoping to enter the hotel industry when I have completed my course in June.
I was delighted when Graham accepted my request to join the team at the Monkbar Hotel for two weeks. I have learnt a great deal about the hotel and all about the daily running through different angles of management.
I have had the pleasure of shadowing a handful of staff throughout my experience and was very excited to slip into my onesie to help promote Martin House’s Good Night Sleep Campaign which is backed by BBC Radio York.
The appeal aims to raise £120,000 which will go towards a planned respite stay for as many as 50 North Yorkshire families, who have a child with a life limiting illness.
On check out, guests will be asked to fill in a form confirming they had a good night’s sleep. This, together with a minimum donation of £1, will be put into a draw to win a weekend stay at the hotel.
Martin House has been the hotels chosen charity for 5 years and has managed to raise nearly £40,000, the majority of the money has been raised through the adoption of cuddly ‘Marty’ bears, which guests are encouraged to take home with them in exchange of a small donation.
